Rooted in Food Service.

It is estimated that by 2050, the world must feed 9 billion people – making the demand for food 60% more than it is today. Thirty-five million Americans lived in food-insecure homes in 2019 – 5.3 of whom are children. Food insecurity refers to the lack of available financial resources for food – especially food that is nutritious and healthy.

By building a space and local capacity for healthy, fresh food at affordable prices, households in the neighborhood will be able to eat well thus improving their livelihood. Introducing unique fruits and vegetables to scholars will be an exciting feature of the Growing Lives Bodega programming. Students will learn basic recipes using fresh produce that they can share with family members at home and carry with them into the future.
